Kawaii and Tie Dye Pencil Holders

Back to school looks different this year, but whether you are going in person or staying home there are so many ways to put your own personal touch on your workspace. Full disclosure- this project takes a few days of “drying” BUT I promise you it’s totally worth it in the end!

What you will need (We picked up all of our supplies from Michaels):

• Plastic Mason Jars

• Acrylic Paints

• Sponge Brushes

• Not Pictured but recommended, Mod Podge Matte Finish

Open your jar and squeeze enough paint to cover the bottom of the jar with a thick layer, it will look like a puddle. This may have been SammyD’s favorite part! :D

Close the jars and shake the paint around to evenly distribute it on the inside walls of the jar. Make sure that lid is on tight first! We liked having the paint on the inside because when you are drawing the cute faces or finishing touches on the outside later you can easily wipe away any mistake before it dries without wiping away the background color!

For a “Tye Dye” effect, squirt drops of different colored paints around the inside of the jar. Shake the jar like you did for the solid colors. To avoid getting a “brown” color, we recommend sticking to color combinations in either the “warm” family or the “cool” family and not mixing the two.

When all of the walls are covered, turn the jars upside down on some disposable plates so that the extra paint will come out of the jar. leave your jars in that position for half a day, then turn it right-side-up to finish drying.

When the inside is completely dry (a few days to be sure) use a sponge brush to paint the inside with a layer of Mod Podge. This will help protect the paint from chipping with pens and pencils are put inside the jar.
